For me, it was one of the most confusing units I've ever done converting patterns into graphs is extremely confusing for me. I did learn and lot how throughout the quarter the people at my tables helped me a lot. Presenting to the class was rather easy I've always been pretty good at controlling my fears and failing in the class didn't scare me that much. Over the Quarter I learned how to convert formulas into graphs and how to find a room for the pows. Speaking of pows throws were incredibly difficult for me. I tended to forget about it until the last moment and then rush and not complete the write-up, in fact, I got 0s on two of my pows just because I never turned them in. That's a resolution for next quarter to finish all my pows.
Healthy population This unit was named ensuring a Healthy population and it was centered around insurance and chances. To start off the unit we made our own country by making up a person and the role of a dice decide if it was boy or girl, what ethnicity it was, how much money it made and its chances of disease. Which led to exploring health insurance learning about how it works. After that, we started exploring chance such as flipping coins and picking marbles out of a bag. We learned techniques to find the probability such as the rug game in which you imagine someone is dropping a dart from the ceiling on to a sectioned out rug. The dart has the same chance of landing on any part of the rug but some of the sectioned off part of the rug is bigger than the others. You can use this game in numerous percentage problems and for a person like me a visual learner it helps a lot. After that, we began exploring expected value. We were given problems like “consider the land of middle earth which has a population of 5 citizens who have various chances of there car transmission going out. Gollum 40%, Gimli 32%, Frodo 20%, Legolas 10%, Gandolf 5% We converted the percents to 40, 30, 20, 10, 5 the time them by 100 and divide that by 100 then averaged up all the answers and that's the expected value. That pretty much sums up the unit I wasn't very detailed in this reflection but I got the basics.
Personal growth Insurance is something that in my opinion is a subject we all should learn about it both improves math skills and prepares people for later life. For instance I believe that in later life it will help me to know The pros and cons to health insurance. But I think will help me the most is the percentage problems and techniques to find it such as the rug diagram. As much as Learning insurance is important we were not tot how to deal with insurance as much as how to make insherins so percentages are more important. I learned a lot more but I'd have to go in to a lot more detail to explain it.
